Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in an organized, effective manner in the general medicine and specialty clinics at the UHD Student Health Center. Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of nursing theory.

Duties

  • Screens and schedules patient appointments according to their health care needs. Communicates symptoms and any acute conditions to provider. Administers first aid and assist in emergency situations.
  • Provides assistance with complex procedures and the treatment. Triages, assess and evaluates vital signs.
  • Consents and educates patients on treatment procedures and the use of necessary medical equipment.
  • Administers medication as prescribed by provider. Confidentially transmits patient EMR to collaborative provider/or facility. Follows up on patients regarding provider's treatment plan or referral.
  • Documents all correspondence in EMR.
  • Performs EKG, venipuncture, collects and processes laboratory specimens, and performs POC diagnostic procedures.
  • Assesses appropriateness of immunization visits and immunize per CDC guidelines and/or provider order. Prepares accident reports, immunization reports or tuberculosis results and maintains copies in patient records; serves as a resource to Health Services
  • staff for assistance/support on electronic medical records system
  • Monitors health center equipment and restock exam/treatment rooms.
  • Educates patients on basic health principles including sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Advises patients on health maintenance and disease prevention
  • Participates in health center quality assurance projects and UH campus and community health fairs. Serves as a medical resource, health educator and advocate for students, employees. Emergency care or crisis intervention to students and staff. Attends professional group meetings and participates on assigned committees

Marginal Duties

  • Communicate with the health center Nurse Practitioner on relevant patient concerns, emergencies or follow up.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Registered Nurse.
