Job Summary

The Lead Maintenance Repair Technician performs maintenance and repairs on piping and plumbing systems throughout the University campus.
The Lead Maintenance Repair Technician installs and supervises contractors that install new potable water and wastewater flow systems as needed for renovation and repair projects on the University campus.

Duties

  • Provides support and supervises the work of other Maintenance Repair Technicians while maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing and piping systems on the University campus.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned buildings, checking for leaks and plumbing fixtures in disrepair.
  • Demolishes clogged, rusted, and outdated plumbing system pipes to prepare for the installation of new plumbing system pipes.
  • Provides estimates for project completion, materials expenses and purchases requires materials
  • Under supervision, designs and installs new potable water and wastewater flow systems as needed for renovation and repair projects.
  • Supervises, assists and observes plumbing demolition and renovation projects as accomplished during the project on the University campus.
  • Supervises and assists with repairs and replacements to damaged storm, sewage pumps, and both positive/non-positive displacement type pumps.
  • Inspects all water softener systems and installs new water lines to water softener systems as required.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of continuous field work in the trades while technically and mechanically using a wide variety of professional tools.  Able to accomplish advanced level maintenance and/or a state plumbing license with10 years in the field.

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment, classroom, training room, and auditorium.

Physical Demands:

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unpleasant elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching.
