Job Summary

The Associate Director, Teaching and Learning Excellence Center fulfills the mission of the center through faculty training and consultation, program planning and implementation, workshop facilitation, business administration, staff training, and directing aspects of digital learning support and pedagogical scholarship at the faculty, course, and program level.

Duties

  • Facilitates in-person and virtual faculty development workshops, symposia, and other pedagogical training programs for faculty teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses.
  • Manages the Center's instructional design support, consultation, and classroom observation services, including mentorship of instructional design support staff.
  • Collaborates with Technology Teaching and the Learning Center to enhance the quality and delivery of instruction via Canvas and other digital learning tools, including AI.
  • Manages the Online Course Design Initiative (OCDI), the QM/OLC workshop/certification program, and QM course review process.
  • Designs and implements professional development programs for faculty teaching First-Year Seminar and core gateway courses.
  • Supports the instructional design team in the continuous improvement and maintenance of the UHD Teaching Academy, an internal certification program facilitated in Canvas and focused on foundational teaching strategies and UHD-specific resources.
  • Facilitates faculty engagement in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the CTLE team.
  • Works alongside leadership to evaluate university-wide programs related to teaching and learning, including data collection and analysis.
  • Assists the director with business administration including consulting on budget, personnel, and logistics decisions.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master's degree

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • QM and/or OLC certification is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Science, Educational/Cognitive Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience with educational technology such as learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other digital learning tools and strategies.
  • Experience in a leadership or administrative role within a Center for Teaching and Learning or similar academic setting.
  • QM and/or OLC certification and/or experience implementing a QM course review, or similar course certification process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Advanced technical knowledge of instructional technology supported by the institution including LMS, VoiceThread and additional LMS-adjunct tools, Office365, Zoom, streaming media tools, and web-driven office productivity tools such as Trello and Airtable;
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies effective for enhanced student learning and success at the undergraduate level;
  • Knowledge of and experience with selecting and implementing Open Educational Resources.

Skills:

  • Proficient in course design and learning outcomes alignment, excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to evaluate course design and teaching approaches for the purpose of providing a plan for continuous improvement; ability to evaluate course design and teaching approaches for the purpose of providing a plan for continuous improvement;

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks. May be required to move items of up to 75lbs.
