Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Communications is responsible for managing content creation and development across traditional and digital avenues. The Assistant Director is involved with communications ranging from social media, newsletters, eMarketing messages, media relations, and the university magazine to speechwriting.
Duties
- Writes communications including messages and speeches for the Office of the Provost.
- Researches, writes, and/or edits, proofreads, and publishes content for university publications, internal and external electronic newsletters, and online communications.
- Manages content and direction of the University magazine, including photography.
- Manages and writes for faculty research publication.
- Supports media relations initiatives, such as writing news releases.
- Writes for emergency communications in the absence of the Executive Director of Communications as needed.

Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
Required Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience
License/Certification:
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years working in higher education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the local media;
- Knowledge of journalism principles and AP style
Skills:
- Excellent writing, editing, social media, and basic office skills;
- Good editorial judgment
Abilities:
- Ability to use computer and graphics programs, and the Microsoft Office suite and Smart sheets in particular;
- Ability to apply critical thinking;
- Ability to produce accurate data and information

- Works in an office environment
