What is Camtasia?

Camtasia Studio is a powerful, all-in-one screen recording and video editing software. It enables users to record on-screen activity, PowerPoint presentations, voiceovers, webcam footage, and more—ideal for creating interactive tutorials and instructional videos.

With Camtasia, you can:

  • Add voice narration and audio annotations

  • Insert visual callouts and effects

  • Edit and enhance videos with transitions, animations, and cursor effects

  • Export finished videos in various formats optimized for online delivery

The University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) provides access to Camtasia through the TechSmith Camtasia/Snagit Bundle for all faculty and staff.

How to Get Camtasia

To install Camtasia on your UHD-issued faculty or staff computer:

  • Submit a request using this form

Using Camtasia at UHD

UHD’s Camtasia license allows faculty and staff to create, edit, and share professional-quality instructional videos.

Videos created with Camtasia can be:

  • Uploaded to cloud services like Dropbox or OneDrive

  • Embedded in Canvas

  • Shared during Zoom sessions
