In celebration of National Transfer Student Week (October 20-24, 2025), the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) celebrates the focused drive of its transfer student population. This year, the spotlight includes Denilson Fernandez, a Finance major whose transfer experience at UHD has directly led to a career opportunity. Born and raised in Houston, Denilson, who has Salvadoran roots, is set to graduate this fall at UHD's 79th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, December 12, 2025, at NRG Arena. He will begin work as a commercial banking analyst with Wells Fargo next year.
He began his higher education journey at Wharton County Junior College. When it came time to transfer, UHD stood out for two specific reasons.
“I was particularly drawn to UHD because of the combination of affordability and the quality of the advising services,” Denilson stated. “I was helped every step of the way through the application process, which made the transition very convenient for me.”
Upon arriving at UHD as a junior, he immediately sought to immerse himself in the campus community, specifically joining the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) UHD chapter. ALPFA, a national non-profit business organization, focuses on developing both the professional and soft skills essential for career advancement.
