All Gators are encouraged to come out to Earth Day Houston at Discovery Green on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in support of the more than 100 UHD student volunteers, as well as to experience the artwork on display by UHD Graphic Design students.

Our Gators will help attendees properly sort compost, recycling, and landfill items, supporting the event’s zero-waste goals. Thirty of those students are studying Urban Education at the College of Public Service where Dr. Tonya Jeffery has incorporated recycling and waste diversion into her curriculum.

As part of a service-learning project, Graphic Design students, led by Professor Natacha Poggio, MFA, have illustrated concepts that promote renewable energy and its power to change the planet for the better. Their exhibition, What If…? A Glossary of Renewable Energy, suggests that the power and ability to protect and care for planet Earth lies within humanity itself, emphasizing the collective responsibility we have to protect our environment and ensure its well-being for future generations.
