This year’s Bayou Bash at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) was nothing short of a success. As UHD’s largest spring tradition, Bayou Bash 2025 delivered everything students look forward to: live music, crawfish, games, vendors, and a strong sense of community. With food by Chartwells and beer generously sponsored by 8th Wonder Brewery, the event brought together students, families, staff, and local organizations to celebrate not just the end of the semester, but the spirit of UHD itself.

The cafeteria was packed with hundreds of students lined up for food and fun, and the atmosphere was electric with faculty, staff, and students all dancing, laughing, and engaging with vendors. From free koozies and food to meaningful conversations and new friendships, Bayou Bash was a true reflection of what makes UHD special—a community united in celebration.

One thing that stood out this year was how intentional the planning was. Every booth, activity, and giveaway was geared toward making students feel seen, involved, and appreciated. There was something for everyone whether it was families with kids enjoying face painting or students collecting free t-shirts and dancing to the DJ’s playlist.

One of the lead organizers of the event, Tremaine Kwasikpui, Director, Student Leadership and Involvement, understands that planning Bayou Bash is like gumbo itself—it's a mix of tradition, contracts, and student engagement. “Crawfish is always a must, as it’s become a staple of the celebration over the past 20+ years,” said Kwasikpui. “Other activities and entertainment like a DJ for line dancing, custom street signs, inflatables, and face painting are chosen based on what students enjoy most.” Some additions, including free affirmations from Seed For Faith and financial wellness resources from PNC Bank, gave the event a more personal, community-focused feel.

On a personal note, Kwasikpui describes Bayou Bash as a celebration of culture and student success. “It’s a moment to pause, come together, and simply enjoy the energy of campus life beyond the classroom.”

The event was sponsored by the Council of Organizations and the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement with Jack Weisberger, Coordinator, Student Leadership & Involvement, and Jose Vazquez, Associate Director, Student Leadership & Involvement, working closely with Business Administrator Samantha Salazar to ensure everything ran smoothly. Others included in the success of Bayou Bash were Events Staff, Staff Council, Facilities, Emergency Management and Fire Safety, University Relations, UHD Police, Administration, and the staff of 3SL. Last but far from least were the cafeteria staff who showed up and showed out with their amazing contribution and hard work—don't forget to greet and thank them!
