The scene at UHD's 77th commencement ceremonies on Dec. 16 was joyful, as the NRG Arena filled with not just Gator graduates and their loved ones, but also the myriad emotions that attend such a momentous, life-changing occasion: excitement, gratitude, and pride.
During the first ceremony, graduates of the Marilyn Davies College of Business and the College of Sciences & Technology crossed the stage. Prior to that, they were treated to a performance from Mariachi Emperadores de Mexico, as well as a rendition of the National Anthem by Kyler Rodriguez of the UHD Concert Chorale (directed by Orlando Williams, Lecturer in Music and Director of UHD Choral Activities).
The keynote address was delivered by Houston City Council Member Mario Castillo of District H, while Nadia Camacho, Data Science, provided the student remarks.
The second ceremony (and the final event of our 50th anniversary) fêted graduates of the College of Public Service and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The student speaker was Jaxon Raye, Political Science, while Houston City Council Member Joaquin Martinez of District I delivered keynote remarks.
