Tandra Semiens Wins Leadership Award

Tandra Semiens, Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment in the Admissions Office, received the Leadership Award in the recent Staff Awards Ceremony. She's one of five staff members recognized for commitment to the University.

She worked full-time at UHD for three years, but was a student professional for four years prior to that. Before stepping into her current role, she was the assistant director at the Marilyn Davies College of Business MBA Office. Prior to coming to work for UHD, she worked at Texas A&M University, UTHealth and at the University of Houston Main Campus. Tandra Semiens

"I find working in the nonprofit, education, and healthcare sectors incredibly fulfilling because of the direct impact on people's lives," she says of her career. "There's a deep sense of purpose in contributing to societal improvement and being part of a community that genuinely cares about making a difference. The challenges are diverse and stimulating, encouraging constant learning and growth. Additionally, the collaborative spirit and passion of colleagues in these fields are truly inspiring."

In her current role at the University, she helps students understand the value of a UHD education. She says, however, that all of her roles at UHD have been tied to helping students pursue their goals in higher education..

"UHD stands out in helping students achieve their goals through its diverse and inclusive environment, tailored academic programs, and strong community connections," she says. "The University's emphasis on accessible and affordable education, coupled with dedicated faculty and practical, real-world learning experiences, makes it a nurturing and effective place for students to grow and prepare for their future."

That's something she understands quite well. Siemens is a UHD alumna. She graduated in 2012, with her bachelor of science in social science, and minored in psychology.

"I take great pride in being a UHD alum," she says. "My favorite thing about UHD is the sense of community. It offers a nurturing environment that uniquely allows our students to grow and flourish."
