Choosing a career is an important and challenging decision! Daphne Clark fell into the insurance industry but if opportunities and programs like UHD's Insurance & Risk Management Program existed when she began her journey, she would still choose insurance and add an insurance degree!

"The old saying goes, "You don't choose to go into insurance, you just fall into it." Well, that was the saying a few years back because colleges didn't have #insurance programs like they do now. If I had a chance to go into college to earn a degree in insurance, I would. I actually came into the insurance industry as a processor and then worked my way up to managing the commercial lines service department at my current #agency.

I have had countless opportunities and have made the most out of all of them. I am fortunate that the agency that I work for is a solid supporter of State and local associations. I have had the opportunity to give back to our insurance industry by serving on the Board of Directors for the Independent Insurance Agents of Houston and moved up to the Executive Board and eventually serving as the President of #IIAH.

My agency is also a firm believer in continuing my education in insurance and have earned my #ACSR (Accredited Customer Service Representative) and my #CIC (Certified Insurance Counselors) designations. Earning designations is a valuable resource if you choose to go into the insurance industry. The laws are constantly changing and if you aren't up to date on your education, you could possibly do a tremendous injustice to your customer.

All in all, the insurance industry has been and continues to be a rewarding and fulfilling career for me. I would highly recommend a career in the insurance industry."
