What is Summer Bridge Get Ready Gators Program?

The Get Ready Gators Summer Bridge Program is a five-week intensive academic program for first-time-in-college students. Summer Bridge is designed to help freshmen strengthen their academic skills, integrate socially, and transition smoothly from high school to university life. The program provides students with the opportunity to become acclimated to the collegiate experience while engaging in rewarding academic and social activities.

Who should apply to participate in the program?

High school seniors graduating in the current year or previous year. 

What tests do I need to complete for the program?

TSI Assessment is required unless other documentation is supported to qualify for exemption.  

How long is the program?

The program is Monday – Thursday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, and Friday is classified as a study/activity day. The program starts on Monday, July 7, 2025, and ends on Wednesday, August 7, 2025.

What is the cost of the program?

The program is at no cost to you as a participant.*
*This will be dependent on submission of a FAFSA or TASFA application to UHD. The UHD school code is 003612.

Can I work as a student while in the program?

The UHD community encourages students to prioritize their transition from high school to college. Due to the academic rigor and engagement expectations of the program, working may limit the time needed to fully participate and succeed in the program.

What support services are provided in the program?

  • Academic support outside of the classroom
  • Social engagement opportunities
  • Peer mentoring from current UHD students

How long will I be in class each day?

The program consists of academic enrichment and support services designed for success.

  • Academic courses will be 2 hours per day, including:
      • English
      • Math
      • UHD Seminar Course

Will I earn college credit for participating in the program?

  • Yes! Students who successfully complete the Summer Bridge Program will earn nine (9) credit hours toward their degree.

Does the program offer transportation?

  • Program participants can purchase a discounted parking pass for the summer only.
  • Program participants are eligible to purchase a METRO pass at a discounted rate for the summer only. 

Are meals provided during the program?

  • Program participants will receive lunch. UHD has a café on campus for purchases at the expense of the participant. 

Does the program provide housing for Summer Bridge participants? 

  • The program does not provide housing to participants. Program participants are responsible for their own housing accommodations. 

What happens if I miss a day of the program?

  • Attendance is critical for success. If you have an unavoidable conflict, please communicate with program staff in advance.
