Suheyli Sanchez, a standout Gator at UHD’s Marilyn Davies Colleges of Business, exemplifies academic excellence and campus involvement. Majoring in International Finance, Sanchez wears multiple hats: President of the student organization ALPFA, student worker in the college’s Dean’s office, and Ted Bauer Scholar. Her impressive resume now boasts a new achievement: participation in Power on Heel Fund, Inc’s Progressive Leadership Program.

Sanchez is one of four exceptional MDCOB and Ted Bauer Scholars, alongside Ana Montoya, Verenice Ocampo, and Ashley Sanchez who successfully completed the innovative workforce readiness program. The initiative, a collaboration between MDCOB, UHD’s Career Center, and Power on Heels Inc, a non-profit dedicated to advancing Latinas, offered a first of its kind development opportunity for these Gators. In spring 2024, participants engaged in an intensive six-week leadership training camp, followed by mentorship from industry leaders and paid internships at a Houston-area company.

Sanchez said, "The internship really inspired me to continue improving my financial skills. Not only did I grow my network, but I gained experiences I’ll be able to take with me moving forward in my next job.” Sanchez continued, “Being able to work with senior management and having our mentors guiding us along the way provided me with a network to rely on.”

What’s next for Sanchez? Because of her summer internship through the Progressive Leadership Program, Sanchez plans to pursue an MBA in Finance and pay it forward by becoming a mentor to students like herself. The success of Sanchez and her peers also demonstrates the program’s potential to shape the next generation of Latina leaders, paving the way for UHD students to access opportunities and launch successful careers.
