Dr. Danielle Bevan
Dr. Kenya Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Houston-Downtown. As a dedicated anti-racist facilitator with extensive experience, she has a proven
track record in providing strategic leadership coaching to executives committed to
advancing race equity and fostering inclusive workplace cultures. Dr. Johnson has
expertise in creating comprehensive race equity frameworks that address systemic inequities
and promote inclusive practices within organizations.
Dr. Johnson’s research delves into organizational change and leadership development,
assessing workplace culture and implementing metrics to evaluate the effectiveness
of race equity initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with best
practices. Her teaching philosophy encourages aspiring social workers to lead with
cultural humility as they scrutinize various systems of oppression and advocate for
change. Her courses include Engaging with Cultural Humility, Urban Practice, and Human
Behavior in the Social Environment.
She is the co-founder of Full Circle Strategies, LLC and a founding board member to
the Race Equity Leadership and Research Collective. Dr. Johnson received her BSW (‘94),
MSW (’97) and her PhD (2021) in social work. Her dissertation was entitled "Developing
a measure of racial equity: The 'AWARE beliefs' scale for PK-12 schools."
